The information in this article applies to :
OroTimesheet 5.x (English)
OroTimesheet 5.x (French)

Description
When you have to change a computer or server, you just have to follow steps below to transfer OroTimesheet 5 and/or your database. Choose from the following three scenarios the one that best match the kind of change you have to do.

Solution
Scenario 1: OroTimesheet 5 is installed in stand-alone mode and you want to transfer OroTimesheet 5 (and the database) on a new computer.

1- Install* OroTimesheet 5 on the new computer.

2- After the installation, start OroTimesheet 5 so that you can verify that everything works fine. You will be in demo mode and it is normal. After it, quit OroTimesheet 5.

3- To get back your data already entered, you must then copy** the database file from your old computer to the new one. This file is usually named OT.FDB and is usually located in the OroTimesheet 5 installation folder (usually C:\Program Files\OroLogic\OroTimesheet5).

4- Finally, start OroTimesheet 5 again and you should see all your old data.

Note that your license numbers are kept directly into the database. So, you do not have to enter it again.

Scenario 2: OroTimesheet 5 is installed in multi-user mode. The database is located on a Windows server and you want to transfer this database on a new Windows server.

1- Install* OroTimesheet 5 on the new server. Be sure to select options Installation in multi-user mode and This computer will act as the server. The OroTimesheet database will be located on this computer.

2- After the installation, start OroTimesheet 5 directly from the server console so that you can verify that everything works fine. You will be in demo mode and it is normal. After it, quit OroTimesheet 5.

3- Ask all your users to quit OroTimesheet 5. After it, go on the old server then stop the service named Firebird Server. So, by doing that, you will be sure that your users will not be able to access the OroTimesheet 5 database on the old server anymore. This step is required so that the database file become not used and to be able to correctly copy it at next step.

4- After it, copy** the database file from your old server to the new one. This file is usually named OT.FDB and is usually located in the OroTimesheet 5 installation folder (usually C:\Program Files\OroLogic\OroTimesheet5).

5- After it, start OroTimesheet 5 again directly from the server console to verify that all your data are in the database.

6- Finally, go on each client computer, start the Connections Manager for OroTimesheet 5 utility then change connection parameters to indicate the name (or IP address) of the new server. Then start OroTimesheet 5 from the client computer to verity that everything works fine. For more information on the Connections Manager for OroTimesheet 5, refer to the section Connections Manager of the OroTimesheet 5 Installation Guide.

Scenario 3: OroTimesheet 5 is installed in multi-user mode and you want to install OroTimesheet 5 on a new client computer.

1- Install* OroTimesheet 5 on the new computer. Be sure to select options Installation in multi-user mode and This computer will access the OroTimesheet database that is located on a remote server.

2- After the installation of FIREBIRD client, the installation program asks you if you want to configure the connection to the database now. Answer Yes to the question. You must enter parameters in different fields to indicate to OroTimesheet where is located the database. To enter these parameters, just use information that you printed when you installed OroTimesheet on your Windows server or use information from another client computer.

After having entered connection parameters, click OK to continue. Then the installation program tests the connection to the OroTimesheet database using parameters you entered. If the test is successful, the installation program ends by displaying Installation successful. Click OK to finish.

If the connection test fails, the installation program displays an error message then you can verify parameters that you entered. Note that if for any reason, you are not able to configure OroTimesheet properly (because the connection test always fails), just continue and finish the installation. Later, you will just have to run the connections manager then configure your connection to the database. You will not have to reinstall OroTimesheet. For more information about the connections manager, refer to the section Connections manager in the OroTimesheet 5 Installation Guide..

* The filed used to install OroTimesheet 5 is usually named OT-EI.EXE. If you did not keep a copy of this file, you can download it again from our web site at the following link: http://www.orologic.com/downloads/orotimesheet.html . Download the full version and not the update only.

** If you saved your database file on a CD-ROM, once copied on your computer or server, you will have to right-click on the file then uncheck the box Read Only.
