When you have to change a computer or server, you just have to follow steps below to transfer NewWayService 4 and/or your database. Choose from the following three scenarios the one that best match the kind of change you have to do.

Scenario 1: NewWayService 4 is installed in stand-alone mode and you want to transfer NewWayService 4 (and the database) on a new computer.

1- Install^* NewWayService 4 on the new computer.

2- After the installation, start NewWayService 4 so that you can verify that everything works fine. You will be in trial mode and it is normal. After it, quit NewWayService 4.

3- To get back your data already entered, you must then copy^** the database file from your old computer to the new one. This file is usually named NWS.FDB and is usually located in the NewWayService 4 installation folder (usually C:\Program Files\OroLogic\NewWayService4).

4- Finally, start NewWayService 4 again and you should see all your old data.

Note that your license numbers are kept directly into the database. So, you do not have to enter it again.



Scenario 2: NewWayService 4 is installed in multi-user mode. The database is located on a Windows server and you want to transfer this database on a new Windows server.

1- Install^* NewWayService 4 on the new server. Be sure to select options Installation in multi-user mode and This computer will act as the server. The NewWayService database will be located on this computer.

2- After the installation, start NewWayService 4 directly from the server console so that you can verify that everything works fine. You will be in trial mode and it is normal. After it, quit NewWayService 4.

3- Ask all your users to quit NewWayService 4. After it, go on the old server then stop the service named Firebird Server. So, by doing that, you will be sure that your users will not be able to access the NewWayService 4 database on the old server anymore. This step is required so that the database file be not in use and to be able to correctly copy it at next step.

4- After it, copy^** the database file from your old server to the new one. This file is usually named NWS.FDB and is usually located in the NewWayService 4 installation folder (usually C:\Program Files\OroLogic\NewWayService4).

5- After it, start NewWayService 4 again directly from the server console to verify that all your data are in the database.

6- Finally, go on each client computer, start the Connections Manager for NewWayService 4 utility then change connection parameters to indicate the name (or IP address) of the new server. Then start NewWayService 4 from the client computer to verity that everything works fine. Scenario 3: NewWayService 4 is installed in multi-user mode and you want to install NewWayService 4 on a new client computer.

1- Install^* NewWayService 4 on the new computer. Be sure to select options Installation in multi-user mode and This computer will access the NewWayService database that is located on a remote server.

2- After the installation of FIREBIRD client, the installation program asks you if you want to configure the connection to the database now. Answer Yes to the question. You must enter parameters in different fields to indicate to NewWayService where is located the database. To enter these parameters, just use information that you printed when you installed NewWayService on your Windows server or use information from another client computer.

After having entered connection parameters, click OK to continue. Then the installation program tests the connection to the NewWayService database using parameters you entered. If the test is successful, the installation program ends by displaying Installation successful. Click OK to finish.

If the connection test fails, the installation program displays an error message then you can verify parameters that you entered. Note that if for any reason, you are not able to configure NewWayService properly (because the connection test always fails), just continue and finish the installation. Later, you will just have to run the connections manager then configure your connection to the database. You will not have to reinstall NewWayService. ** If you saved your database file on a CD-ROM, once copied on your computer or server, you will have to right-click on the file then uncheck the box Read Only.
